Recommended Theories for you Future Teachers

Hey! so there are two main theories that I am going to apply and that you should apply too in your classroom or future classroom. The first one is Vygotsky's Theory of Sociocultural Learning! This one is so important because it applies ZPD and scaffolding. I cant stress how important it is for a teacher to understand where the students are at to teach them and then to meet them there to help them maximize their learning; but you cannot baby them forever, you need to pull away. ZPD and scaffolding are so important so that is the first main theory that is a MUST for the classroom. The second theory that needs to be applied in the classroom is Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development. These stages are so vital to know becuase if you know what stages they are at, then you can help support them so that there is a positive outcome instead of a negative outcome that will affect them for life. If you understand the changes too, then you will also be able to understand changes that they may be going through and you will understand their crisis's. Those are two very important theories that must be applied to the classroom!!!

For those of you wanting to take TE 150...

If there are any people out there that are wanting to sign up or are signed up for TE 150, there are many things that you can do to not only do well in the class grade wise, but also to learn the most. Although I did not get to do them all, i saw some really good ideas that I think would have helped me out a lot. First, do the reading, and although they are not quizzed, they are discussed and by reading it you get to connect peices better and you will remember it and be able to apply it to situations more if you understand it fully; that requires doing other work than just listening to discussion. Also, when reading, I saw people that took notes in the book alongside the margins and that will leave cues for you to pick up on which will be very helpful in the long run and in for your memory. Lastly, it has really helped me, for learning, it helps to print off the slides before the class because then you can take notes on that and you can follow along instead of trying to copy them down or just zoning out while they are read. It engages you more and is helpful when studying for the exam and remembering them. Those are some helpful hints that have been really useful for me this past year. Best of luck! It is an awesome class! I loved it : )

My Journey Throughout TE

My whole time in TE I have been taking away new lessons everyday and learning ideas on why I might think one way or another to this day. It has really changed how I think about thinking, but two main things stick out to me. I never realized how differently kids learned and how much the environment in which they grew up affected them. When you go to schools in a wonderful district and see everything looking the same, you get stuck in your own bubble and you dont alwalys realize other conditions other kids have growing up. Some kids have poverty or crisis's in their areas and that can majorly affect how the child learns and has learned in the past. It explains not only behavior but also past experiences and learning patterns if you understand the child and where they came from. Thats why its importnat to understand that kids learn differnetly and that we are all very individual and you have to realize that when teaching and not get upset. If you are going to take TE 150, those are two of the most important things that you should learn and always remember when you go into your professional career. By being understanding, you can help the child learn to their maximum level.
